A few months ago, I announced I was going to start doing some “Thursday Thoughts” posts - and then I promptly ceased blogging or doing anything creative for about 3 months. I shared more about that in my newsletter this week and may write a separate post about it in the future but suffice it to say, I was tired and stressed and needed a break (also if you haven’t subscribed to my newsletter yet, what are you waiting for? Anyhoo- the bottom line here is that I’m back and happy to be sharing some thoughts with you all.
The Instagram fam has spoken! Yesterday, I posted in my stories about starting to share “5 Thoughts” blogs. You may know the kind - with thoughts/musings/recommendations/bits and pieces from the person’s life. It’s a little bit like the mixed bag you can sometimes find in the Whole Foods cheese section - odds and ends that don’t constitute their own package. So taking my inspiration from the cheese section (as you do), I’m going to share little bits and bobs in this format with the exception that I’m only going to share four thoughts rather than five - purely because I do not like multiples of five (anyone else?). It’s been my intention for awhile to share relevant pieces of my life on this blog for awhile which is something I used to do a lot more of and miss. So I’m going to try it out for a bit on a semi-regular basis and would love your thoughts/feedback as always!
Can you believe that it’s already more than halfway through November? It feels like this year is flying by and there hasn’t been much room to slow and down and breath. Thanksgiving is in less than a week (what?!) and while I am excited to go home and spend time with my family, I am also acutely aware that this can be a really challenging time if you’re struggling in your relationship with food. I’ve been talking with a lot of my clients recently about the upcoming holiday and wanted to share some of my thoughts about navigating food on the holidays.
Similar to my last post, this one is inspired by a recent trip I took. At first, I thought how odd it is that they both inspired me to write something here considering I really don’t travel very often- then I realized it’s really not that odd given all the bullshit diet culture ideas I harbored around food and travel, all the articles I used to read about how to “stay on track” while traveling and the best way to detox and reset our bodies when we get home.
So I wanted to share a little bit about how I’m detoxing this week after a weeklong vacation. If you follow me, it will come as no surprise that I find most detoxes and cleanses to be bullshit, forcing you to pay hundreds of dollars for something your liver and kidneys are perfectly capable of doing (even if you do have any issues with renal/liver function, a week of $300 juices is not going to be your cure). There’s no need to cleanse or detox- your body is very well-equipped to rid itself of toxins and absorb nutrients when you eat something. No lemon cayenne fire water is going to make that process any more efficient.
